John Junker, in less than a decade, has gone from being revered as one of the most powerful people in college football to being disgraced and likely an admitted felon.

The 56-year-old Junker, once the corporate face of college football’s Fiesta Bowl, is expected to enter a plea bargain with the Arizona attorney general, admitting he solicited employees to make campaign contributions that the bowl later reimbursed.

Junker’s attorney told The Arizona Republic on Saturday that the former chief executive of the bowl had agreed to plead guilty to a felony for his role in the scheme. If a judge agrees to the deal, Junker could face 2 years in prison upon sentencing.

The plea bargain comes more than two years after The Republic first reported in December 2009 that current and former employees said they were reimbursed for making campaign contributions at the urging of Junker. Such reimbursement would violate campaign-finance laws. For months, Junker denied the allegations.
