I have combination skin. My nose, chin and the centre of the forehead always look shiny and oily.
At the same time I feel other parts of my face are dry. I have problems with blackheads, whiteheads and also acne. I thought the best way to minimise them was to scrub my face three to four times a week. So I use a mild exfoliant to scrub my face.
However, I also have a really sensitive skin. My face capillaries are visible and have been like that since I was a kid. My face looks red even when I am indoors.
Is there a problem with my cleanser? Should I stop scrubbing my face? Camille
Your skin could be behaving this way, says Christine Cheong, Yves Rocher training manager, due to over exfoliation.
It sounds like thin skin due to visible capillaries and as such, prone to sensitivity if one exfoliates more than once or twice a week regularly.
While exfoliating encourages a healthy regeneration of new skin cells, excessive exfoliation thins out the skin and can lead to dehydration, skin irritation and even oiliness as the skin fights to protect itself and compensate for moisture loss.
