Christmas brings many emotions and even magic (Ann Phillips)
HUNTSVILLE, Alabama _ Eleven months of the year I am a realist. In December I become a child again. I believe in magic.
"Twas the night before Christmas and all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse."
As a child, I remember tossing and turning in bed and wishing I could sleep so Santa would come; but, my eyes refused to close. I believed Christmas Eve was the longest night of the year.
"The stockings were hung by the chimney with care in hopes that St. Nickolas soon would be there."
I remember our small house with no fireplace. Our young children hung their stockings by the window air conditioner. I told them Santa could vaporize and come through the vents. Amazingly, that is what happened. I know it was true because their stockings were filled and gifts were under our tree.
I remember the aroma of our farm cedar Christmas trees. When attacked by cutting or decorating, cedar retaliates with painful sticks and scrapes. The beautiful little "Charlie Brown" trees are worth the discomfort when decorated with glittering lights and ornaments made by my children and grandchildren. I do not have designer trees, I have sparkling memory trees.
