T.T.: What are the key cosmetics you use to get Bonnie’s look?

L.O.: I use mostly M.A.C. products, as plotted for my character by our makeup designer, Ashley Ryan. I start with M.A.C.’s Mineralize Satinfinish Foundation , then add powder blush in Mocha. I blend an array of orangey/brown and ivory shadows on my eyes. Then I fill in and shape my brows, with an angled brush dipped in M.A.C. Espresso eyeshadow . I then add some modest lashes. My favorite part is doing my lips; the colors are so rich and sexy. The lip liner is Chicory by M.A.C. and the lipstick is by Nars, in Flamenco. It’s all finished with Make Up For Ever HD powder . I touch up backstage with M.A.C. Studio Fix powder, which has extra coverage.

T.T.: As the story unfolds, the colors used for the lips and eyes deepen. What was the thinking behind this?

L.O.: She starts off with a more youthful look: enough color to make her beautiful, but still have an innocence — both physically and emotionally. The show spans a three-year period, so by the second act, we start to see Bonnie mature. Even though she and Clyde were on the run, they stole money and could afford to be more glamorous. I think the addition of the smokier eye and darker lip later in the show helps express Bonnie’s transition to a woman, and a criminal.
